The sound, the song, the roar, the whispered word…
Audio. It’s what takes you there.
A complete surround sound system goes well in a living room or game room, or any other environment where true cinematic sound is desired. Often, this room will be where the receiver/amplifier which drives the entire whole home audio system will be housed. These components, along with DVD players or streaming devices, can also be housed in a closet, so long as there is adequate ventilation.
Bookshelf speakers can be placed on any hard surface area. A traditional stereo speaker array requires a receiver/amplifier to deliver power and content to the speakers. Newer innovations in wireless audio, like Sonos, only require the speaker to be plugged into a power outlet. This wireless technology can be used in a single room or expanded to create a whole home audio solution.
Outdoor speakers are designed like a bookshelf speaker, but they are engineered with weatherproof casings. Typically an outdoor speaker can be mounted under a soffit to give it more protection. Speaker rocks are outdoor speakers in a faux rock casing which can be placed in landscaping.

The Wireless HiFi System
The simplest way to add audio to your home is with Sonos. You can start with just one speaker in one room and then build upon that system over time. Sonos speakers can also be placed to create a 5.1 surround sound system. Sonos speakers do not require receiver/amplifiers. Speakers are directly plugged into a power outlet and then are configured to work on your wireless network. Each speaker has its own volume control built into it. Sources (what you’re listening to) are changed via an app used on any smartphone, tablet or through your computer.
